White is a color, the perception of which is evoked by light that stimulates all three types of color sensitive cone cells in the human eye in nearly equal amounts and with high brightness compared to the surroundings. A white visual stimulation will be void of hue and grayness. Reference - Wikipedia
My early days in photography go a long ways back. I used black & white film and made black & white pictures because I could produce them in my own darkroom. Color was the medium of studio and wedding photography.

Digital photography came along. As the cameras became better and better, it was possible to capture a wide array of colors from black, the presence of all color to white, the absence of color. Every color in between could be represented in the photograph as well.
Digital photographs can be manipulated using a number of software programs. Some are free (such as Paint.net) and some are expensive (such as Photoshop). The learning curve is steeper on some than others. But they all provide a way to manipulate digital photographic files. That includes the ability to alter color.

The ability to manipulate the colors of a digital photograph, interestingly, is that all the colors can be represent in black shadows, white highlights and all the shades of gray in between. A boy's skin becomes on type of gray while his lips are another.

And while it is possible to permanently convert all the colors to black, white and gray, it is also possible to preserve every color so the picture can be taken back to color.
This is an apt metaphor for our own persona. We are one person to those with whom we live. To those with whom we work. Or engage on a social media site. That persona may truly be a matter of necessity as in a work environment. There may be an element of fantasy involved in the persona that we present on Facebook. But ultimately, we are the same person regardless of how we present ourselves. And we revert to that person when we are in our most natural environment.

What beautiful photos, and what a beautiful thought. Thank you for sharing!
